What’s believed to be the first-of-its-kind, members-only social club for smoking weed will open Friday in Worcester.
The Summit Lounge, at 116 Water Street in Worcester, will give people who pay a monthly membership fee a place to smoke marijuana, consume edibles, and relax with friends.
College students Kyle and Jake Moon, along with their parents, are opening the family business.
“In an industry that is naturally — how do I say this? — illegitimate, we want to provide that legitimacy,” Kyle Moon said.
For $50 a month, customers can access The Summit to smoke marijuana inside. They can bring their own paraphernalia or rent it from the lounge.
The brothers said they’ve been working closely with city officials, and have a number of rules in place, including no selling drugs, no alcohol and no video allowed inside.
People who want to join will go through an application process consisting of an in-person interview and a tour of the facility. The club said it has already fielded applications.
Kyle Moon told Worcester Magazine the idea is based on a similar establishment in Colorado, where weed-centered entrepreneurs have to navigate slightly different, but similarly strict regulations.
“We want to help build the industry in a positive way,” he said.
