Thousands of people are expected to attend the High Times Cannabis Cup this weekend at Cal Expo.
The first-of-its-kind event will take place Friday and Saturday. The cannabis trade show and music festival will feature musical artists Lauryn Hill, Ludacris, Gucci Mane and more.
Here are 5 of things to know about the Cannabis Cup this weekend:
Large crowd expected:
Organizers said 15,000 people are expected to attend the two-day event. The event is for people 21 and older, so make sure to bring your ID.
Smoking will be allowed:
Attendees will be allowed to purchase, smoke and consume cannabis products at the event, officials said. But remember, people are only allowed to possess 1 ounce of marijuana and up to 8 grams of concentrate, according to California state law.
Quantity control:
Event organizers agreed to some changes after discussing concerns with Sacramento City Council members Tuesday night. Attendees will have to wear a wristband to indicate when they have bought the maximum amount of marijuana. Organizers will also check bags as patrons leave the event.
Security and safety:
During the event, Cal Expo police and two private firms will provide security, officials said. California Highway Patrol officers will also be on patrol in the area.
Revenue for Sacramento:
The event could generate up to $200,000 in tax revenue for Sacramento, Cannabis Policy and Enforcement Officer Joe Devlin said.
