Munchies Milk Tart is a South African favorite. It is basically a custard tart with a cinnamon dusting. These bad boys can be eaten at any time of the day and go excellently as a teatime snack. Be warned though, these guys have half a cup of cannabutter in them, so they pack a hard punch. You can substitute some of the cannabutter for regular butter if you absolutely hate getting a serious buzz on.
Enjoy.
Yield: 12 – 16 portions
Time: 50 minutes
Difficulty: easy
Ingredients:
2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup white sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup cannabutter, softened
1 pinch salt
4 cups milk
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla essence
1 Tbsp. butter
2 ½ Tbsp. all-purpose flour
2 ½ Tbsp. cornstarch
½ cup white sugar
2 eggs, beaten
½ tsp. ground cinnamon
Method:
Preheat your oven to 350°F.
In a mixing bowl, cream together ½ cup cannabutter and 1 cup sugar.
Add 1 egg and beat until the mixture is smooth.
Using a separate bowl, mix 2 cups flour, baking powder, and salt.
Stir the flour mixture into the sugar mixture just until the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Press the mixture into the bottom and sides of two 9-inch pie pans.
Bake the pastry in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes or, until golden brown.
Place a large saucepan over medium heat and add the milk, vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of butter.
Bring this to a boil and then remove from the heat.
In a separate bowl, mix 2 ½ tablespoons of flour, cornstarch, and ½ cup sugar.
Add the beaten eggs to the sugar mixture and whisk until smooth.
Slowly whisk this mixture into the milk.
Return the pan to the heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
Boil and stir for 5 minutes.
Pour half of the mixture into each pastry shell.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and place the tarts into the refrigerator to chill before serving.
