So on this journal were going to do a complete grow utilizing all of the cheapest methods we ever used that had good end results, not all methods we tried worked out good, while others did very well. My husband gave me fity bones ($50.00) to start a new grow and start converting our grow room. I know lights are going to be costly so that’s a separate budget the 50 is for just the grow. We need to shop and see what’s going on with cost these days but we wont be buying new lights as we really like the metal halide for veg and hps lights for flower we may get something like cfls for part of it we will see. as I said we already have great stuff to grow in and a grow room already set up but we are going to start fresh using this budget so were actually starting in our bedroom tonight until we can make room in our grow room tomorrow.

A bit about us and why change our stuff over:
My husband and I have been growing since March of 92, we don’t know it all and there is always room for improvement and new things to learn all the time. We helped a friend in the area last year with his first grow I believe he posted a journal. We are asked by our friends all the time for help and again we don’t know it all but with our experience and as often as we moved we have had experience with several different typed of growing from dirt in nursery pots to several types of custom made hydro grows. Were going to take this knowledge and start a new more efficient grow room.

Well with every thing going on and with this economy we are going to do a new grow using budget methods we had over the years that got good results. So we told the people we know to tune in and we will post all the info here for every one to read and enjoy and in some areas we may even need your help. With the new laws in Michigan were going to do a 12 plant grow from scratch using a budget to show how easy and inexpensive this really can be, you don’t need $400 set ups and 2k in lighting u can do it yourself and have a great final product. we are also are going to try to utilize several passive types of watering to keep electric bills down to about only $50 a month and yes we have done this before. We need to save as much $$$ as we can these days so we are going to be changing all our stuff over as well on this grow and get back to basics.

so after reading and reading AND READING, of this wonderful forum, i have decided to take the plunge.... this will be my first REAL attempt at a good grow.
iv thrown a seed in a pot by the window before only to fail 4 weeks later and even put one under a normal house hold light before only to fail once agen, obviously after knowing this wealth of information i have goatherd hear,

all onlookers will be respected and appreciated and any advise givers will have more then my gratitude..

to begin..
for lighting i am going to use 6 light sockets with a double insert making 12 lights all together im going to use CFL's
20 watts
1150 lumen
daylight bulbs
and one fish light tube i will have to post some pics so u you can see my make up.... i think its good in comparasion to some of the other CFL builds iv seen hear...... not to be cocky......
that makes a grand total of
240watts + whatever the fish tank light is and
13800 lumen..... lmao i put it together and it was bright

also at this time id like to thank boss because he is a leading contributor to my research on how to do a poor mans build, after reading threw his grow 10 times i decided to take a crack at the same idea in a different light... lol

im unfortunate to have to use bag seeds because i cant get any thing as of right now so ill hope for the best

i have a soil ph reader
thermometer and humidity meter

i got a potting soil from miracle grow I KNOW most people say don't use it but its the only bag of sterile soil i can find right now so i got some perlite to try and make the drainage a little better, hopefully that will be good

im using my closet, a very small one at that, iv converted it in to a pretty stealthy cabinet but its not finished yet, the end product will be two small grow rooms, one on top the other, seald of from light and air. one for veg the other for flowering, the flower room is slightly bigger then the veg room for obvious reasons... bud

anyways ill get on latter tonight when no ones around and post some pics so you can see were im at
i plan on completing the closet by tomorrow night and hopeful start my germs

happy greens to all and thanks for stopping by!!!!!

Well here we grow I guess. After a few false starts and general screw ups on my part I am going to try to get my DWC grow technique out for your perusal.

A little history here. I am a plant killer. Every time I tried to grow a house plant or pot plant it died. Every freakin' time. Pissed me off to no end. I read an article about growing plants in tubs of nutrient water and thought that that sounded like the way to go. It was about the Mayan floating gardens. It utilized chemistry (I have a diploma in that), and common sense (I seem to have been blessed in that dep't as well).

In 2001 I started on my own procedure to grow some really good cannabis using the information I had found. I had previously grown lots of pot under lights since 1977. My first foray into DWC was under 6 - 4' fluorescents with incredible results. Veg wise. Didn't flower worth a crap until I got a 400W HPS and a flower room then yahoo it worked like a hot damn!

My latest excursion like the last 20 or so is another experiment to see how far I can push this puppy to see if she calls bullshit. So far, so good.

I took fourty seeds, all sprouted and ended up with fourty plants for transplant in the two tubs. Thirty three survived for transplant. Sixteen in the 12 hole tub and seventeen in the four hole tub. It's kinda crowded but I'm looking for a SOG kind of thing and they are a week or so from 12/12. My previous grow got one male out of nine seeds so I'm hoping for the same thing.

I got a bunch of seeds from a grower who swore they were Kush. The last batch sure had all the markers for Kush even up to big purple leaves and the stink! Oh my god, the STINK! The babies are only 6" tall now and not into flowering and are stinking the house up just fine.

They're sitting under a 400W EYE Hortilux at the moment and will be joined with a 400W HPS a week or so after they go 12/12. I might put a little 150W HPS on them now just to warm them up to the idea of flowering ASAP.

Grow info:

2 - RubberMaid Roughneck tubs. 50L each at 1" below pots. 12 - 3" pots in one, 4 - 5" pots in the other.

2 - 12" Airstones run off of one Maxima-R aquarium pump.

I set up to transfer the babies to the tubs. I put the lid I'm using on an empty tub so I can wash any loose dirt out of the transplanted babies. Once the lid is full I just put it on the tub full of nutes.

First row is done. Two each. One each in the next eight pots.

Empty 12 - holer on my new roll-away platform. duh!? I should have done this years ago. Each tub holds 50L/50Kg of water.
That's 110 lbs. or almost 14USG for my American friends. Plus a lb or 2 for the plastic, plus the weight of the plants. Not much now but it won't be long before they add their weight to the mix. Holy hernias Batman! The rollers will sure help my old spine for sure.

Another plus IMHO is that there are no holes below the water line = no leaks. I have a sump pump in the floor about six feet from the tubs and both could spill at once with no negative effect except for me trying to fill them up and keep the babies growing! Twenty grows and never a spill so far, cross my heart and hope to die! The air line goes in just under the handle and a smaller hole is made in the lid for access to the nutes for testing, adjusting etc.

In my educated opinion there just isn't any easier or faster way to grow huge buds indoors for the small farmer. No sprayers to plug up. No submersible pumps to f**k up or add heat to your nutes. $10 tubs can be replaced every couple of years if your paranoid about leaks. I'm using one that's six and a new one. My nute temps got a little high (73F), so I put a couple of half gallon pop bottles of frozen salt water into a cooler, put the air pump in the cooler and went down to 65F in six hours. Lasted for twenty-four hours without a bottle change. Cheap and easy. What's not to like?

I'm using AN nutes that are nine years old and I'm sure that I could do better with some of their new nute line. But I'm Scottish and I'd beat down a Jewish feller for the last nickle. lol

I don't believe in flushing, tho I do reduce PPM after cropping the big colas then let the lower buds ripen for cropping in a couple of weeks. I believe that proper curing is the secret to great tasting buds and all my friends are copacetic with this simple philosophy. We're all over 40 and way past getting off our heads. The two hit buzz eases the pain and the choice of bud, honey-oil, honey-hash with a vape makes life much easier to take. My fave is a small bud in a simple pipe, three or four times a day. But if friends come over to play pool I love loading the vape up with kief or honey-oil and letting the good times roll! :0)

I consider myself blessed to know this plant as well as I have for the last fourty years. I pray it blesses me for another fourty or more.

I pray it blesses you all for the rest of your lives, no matter the duration.

:peace:

Hey everyone, I am new here. I have one 126w penetrator that I bought a little while back.

I have on the way a 180w spectra in route via UPS.

Each light will be hung over two reserva privada kandy kush clones. I will run a 18/6 veg. in 2x4ft ebb & flow trays (I know its big for two plants each but its all I have). I will be using General Hydroponics flora series as a three part base with supplements from fox farm and advanced nutrients. Each test will be conducted in individual 4x4 grow tents that will be sealed and CO2 enriched to a level of 1450ppm. No ventilation other then oscillating fans with in the realm of each respective tent. Ill veg for 4 weeks exactly and then will go into flower.
Each light will utilize 30 degree viewing angle for a more focus and light intensity.

I will also have two continuous 360 degree rotating electric motors attached to each (individual) main attach chain to ensure the light is evenly dispersed over every plant underneath their designated light.

Those are my intended guidelines in which I will be conducting my grow.
In no way have I contacted either company, just someone who paid full price to get some specific data for my own R & D. I work with in the confines of my own company. This data will then in turn be used for a light we are designing to grow under water Marine Phytoplankton witch through biochemistry and science creates astonishing health benefits for both humans and animals alike.

The test will begin immediately when I receive the light from the other vendor. Thanks all.
:peace: to all who seek it.

The machines are a mega garden, a ebb n grow, a bontanical 45site powercloner, a aero flo 36, a diy multibucket controller, and a diy 4in pvc tube thingy. Each machine will be used for different reasons and phases of the grow. This might get confusing but its gonna be fun lol.

so
i tried setting something up in my shed
but it was just to cold out there

so i began looking around again and saw some micro grows
then the other day i had an idea when i was jamming on my guitar

i have this old shit amp that i was willing to kill to test out this microgrow stuff

i think im gonna have size issues the box is 10.5" wide 10.5" tall 6.5"deep
but im just gonna try and see if i can get any amount of bud, you know just so i can smoke some bud i grew myself;)

well ive gutted it and got it to the basic stage the only thing im missing is ventilation

ive not had much expirience with true ventilation with fans and such but i know that im gonna need to do something so any ideas or tips would be appreciated im just kinda like in this spot where i dont want to fuck up the box cause im not sure what idea will work

well i guess the next thing is pics of what the box looks like
first we have my guitar corner can you tell which one

its this one

the back, not as stealthy as the front but who looks at the back of my amps sorry about the foot and if youre wondering the green stuff is modeling clay im using it to seal the light in and allow me still to remove the back

heres a couple pics with the back pulled down

so id like to know if you think this could work i think im just going to have to really train the plant and utilize more horizontal space well

so anything you think i can improve on and some ventilation ideas /tips

ive got 3 seeds germinating i did 2 with the paper towel method and one soaking in a glass of water till it sank then planted in soil they are just some random bagseed hopefully more indica need a shorty lol well i hope i havent forgot anything see ya

Those who watched my last journal know that I grew two of these plants. I've decided to come back to them for several reasons.

1-I got two very distinct phenos. One as advertised...a super indica. The other a sativa dominant. There is sativa on both parental sides (Skunk#1xMazar), but the split is low so I was rather surprised to have one go rogue on me.

2-Both phenos were outstanding. A very unusual situation there. Usually there is a "weaker" pheno, but in this case I would have been completely satisfied with keeping either one as a mother plant. I rated the indica a half point higher than the sativa, but as the buds have begun to truly cure the sativa has caught up with the indica.

3-Yield was above average and could have been much better if I hadn't tried to overfill my grow space with a couple of White Widows (one of which died). I also had an autoflower RoadRunner in there but it was gone before it got crowded. Lesson learned. This time I'm just growing two plants in the same space.

I'm growing completely organic. Soil will be FFOF with 25% more perlite added. The nute program is almost entirely guano/casting teas, I had to add TechnaFlora's seaweed extract and unsulphured molasses to get the trace elements and minerals that all plants need to thrive. In the event of a nute program meltdown, I have one bottle each of TechnaFlora's Pura Vida Grow/Bloom that I was very impressed with last grow. Good stuff and it doesn't reek. I wouldn't use it as cologne, you understand, but it leaves no detectable odor when used in soil or hydro setups, a major plus for those of us who wish to avoid chemicals or synthetic hormones and the like.

My goals for this grow are quite simple. Dialing in the proper tea feed program and yielding 4+ ounces per plant. I may LST/FIM these plants. The structure of both plants in the last grow would have lent themselves well to LST and with the cola potential for a FIM'd plant, I may not be able to resist the temptation to try and grow a couple monsters.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 1

Seeds were soaked for 24 hours despite the fact both seeds sank within 8 hours. Both seeds were germed in paper towels and cracked in less than 24 hours.

They were both planted in my starter soil Monday morning. Taproots were 1/2" long and very healthy looking. Yesterday they broke the soil and this morning they look like this.

So, we're off and rolling once again. I'll post my tea recipes and preperation methods as we come to their use.

Hope everyone who drops in enjoys what they see.

Hey everybody,:welcome:

It is GREAT to be back.

This will be my new journal. You can see my first journal in my signature.

First time didn't turn out so well...

But this time i have a setup my last closet grow could have only dreamed about.

For this grow I will be using Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil with 80/20 soil to perlite ratio. The nutrients are Fox Farm too, GB , BB , and TB for soil.

I have a 400 CFM fan by Hydro farm and a 600 W MH/HPS switchable lighting system.

I am doing one SC and one BB, for the first round.
Because these are such radically different types, fighting the growth and trying to keep them level is going to prove a challenge but rewarding to be able to feel the difference between them.

Now for some name drops. lol
Some of the growers on this site (and some that we miss) are my main inspiration for what I do.

Berrydizzle
Stratlogic
Shaggie420
and Boss
I pretty much learned it all from your threads.
So thank you.

And more lately from,
Pit
420fied
BAS
BWC BA
and
Munki

So thank you for doing what you do!

Right now the SC and BB are germinating as of 5:00 pm on Nov 16th. So stay tuned.

Room pics after work tonight.
