Can anyone explain to me how the movement has become so divided? I was reading this article> (for some strange reason I can't find this particular article) earlier. I just read that Dennis Peron & Ed Rosenthal, were opponents of taxation. Dennis Peron was recently fired from Oaksterdam University (owned by Richard Lee)>http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...-movement.html. Richard Lee is for taxation and is willing to front $1 mil of his own money to collect signatures to get it on the ballot. He has been one of the driving forces in local legislation in Oakland. Lee founded a committee that passed Measure Z, an Oakland law that makes cannabis possession the lowest law enforcement priority as well as mandating that Oakland tax cannabis legally under state law. Steve DeAngelo of Harborside (a well respected dispensary in Oakland) supports taxation, but not the model Richard Lee is supporting. Then I read another article about a Jack Herer initiative that is to be drafted and a signature campaign is to follow>http://www.420magazine.com/forums/in...een-filed.html. What the hell is going on? Is this an ego or power struggle or what? How can we get anywhere with the cannabis movement and the people in the forefront can't agree while on center stage? I don't even know know which one to support or where to find the proposed documents. NE one have any idea what's happening in California?

Los Angeles NORML will be hosting a "Letter Writing Party" get together on Sunday morning November 1st at Bruce Margolin's Law office in West Hollywood from 9-11:30 am.

We are asking people to give us an hour of their time, that's all. More would be great.

The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the current situation in Los Angeles and also to write letters to Los Angeles city officials about the medical marijuana ordinance that will then be hand delivered to each council members office on Monday Nov 2nd.

Also letters will be written to state officials urging support of AB 390, the Ammiano bill.

In talks with aides to council members it has become clear that we need to start an old fashioned letter writing campaign. Many aides have told me to "have your people write letters instead of yelling outside".

What we are told constantly is that politicians like to look at stacks of letters from constituents and point to them and say "look at all these letters I get about this". Apparently emails and phone calls have a much less effect, they are tallied and quantified but letters are actually read.

And the more letters we write the greater our impact will be.

This could be groundbreaking, getting all the local activist patients and groups together to plan a unified action.

What: Los Angeles NORML Letter Writing Party

Date: Sunday November 1, 2009

Time: 9-11:30 Am

Where: Law Offices of Bruce Margolin
8749 Holloway West Hollywood, Ca 90069

We look forward to seeing you Sunday Nov 1, 2009.

Yes we cannabis!

Urge the Mayor to participate with the Task Force

Rally will be held in front of 202 "C" St. San Diego CA 92101 - 9am -
11/3/2009

Come out on Tuesday, November 3rd 2009 at 9am and urge the Mayor and Chief of Police to participate in the Medical Marijuana Task Force.

The San Diego Medical Marijuana Task force met on Thursday October 22, 2009 for the third time to deliberate on regulations for the operation of medical marijuana collectives and cooperatives in the city. Some of the issues discussed were security, lighting and operating hours.

The Mayor, Chief of Police, District Attorney or any of their representatives were nowhere to be seen.

In San Diego we have a "Strong Mayor" government in which the Chief of Police and most other pertinent city departments report directly to the Mayor. When the task force was formed, Mayor Sanders made it clear that his office will not participate nor will they send a representative to listen to the task force.

Although urged by the City Council and hundreds of patients, the Mayor, Chief of Police, and the District Attorney still have all refused to work with or participate in the task force. Urge the San Diego Mayor (Jerry Sanders), the Chief of Police William Landsdowne, and the District Attorney's office to work with the newly formed San Diego Medical Marijuana Task force rather than continue to add to the environment of fear perpetuated against patients in San Diego.

If you can't come out to the rally on Tuesday, please call the and urge the Mayor Chief of Police and the DA to sit down and work with patients, rather than refuse to help or participate!

Mayor Jerry Sanders

. T: (619) 236-6330

Police Chief William Landsdowne
