How much do my cheepo Home Depot windows block out . They advertise they block UV rays , so is it a waste of time having them in a sunbeam coming thru the window ? or should I keep the under the grow light.

I think all glass blocks UV light. I am growing in greenhouses – one of them is covered with UV-resistant greenhouse plastic, the other with clear polycarbonate plastic (also UV-resistant). I grow and harvest 6 to 8 ft tall plants.

Glass is very effective at blocking UVA, but about 75% of UVB gets through. That said, some manufacturers put a tint in their glass, that blocks a percentage of total sunlight, it's really pretty specific to the manufacurer, but usually it's between 7%-15% for residential windows. The cheaper the window, the less tint is likely to be in it.
